Why are most of us always broke and living from paycheck to paycheck and other have so much money they could fill swimming pools with it? You can track trends, listen to economists, what wall street go up and down, complain about outsourcing (that’s another sore subject) but I’m going to take ya’ll back about 40 years and tell you what it’s really all about.

Remember when…. No, you probably don’t. I remember when dad worked and mom was always home. Mom knew what was going on, where the kids were, and controlled the house and kept order in everybody’s lives. Now, don’t get in a tirade about woman’s rights and all that, I’m not going there. I’m just setting the stage. But I do have some news, that was one of the most important rules mom ever played. The problem back then was that dad never played that role and one of the two always should. But, skip that issue, let’s get back to the economy thing. What’s this got to do with it. Listen up,

If everybody in the world had a million dollars do you think bread would be $1.50 a loaf or would it be $10.00 a loaf. If everybody in the world had $50.00 do you think bread would be $10.00 or 25 cents? The price that we pay really depends on how much we have to spend. It’s all relative. If we all only had $50.00 that would be because wages were lower, if wages are lower then the cost of making bread would be lower and the sale price would reflect that. It is really very simple. You can shroud it in theories and rhetoric but I am going to put it in a nut shell for you. Ready?

“The cost of living will always rise to what the market will bear”

Tada! That’s it folks. It’s our own fault. Mom wanted to start working to expand her horizons and bring in a little extra money for the household. (Now right here, remember, you can substitute dad for mom and the equation remains the same. This is not about women.) As more and more couples began to have two jobs, families had a little more money and Wonder Bread said “Hey, Joe Shmo can afford a little more for his bread so let’s raise the price a nickel”. Well, there went mom’s extra nickel so she added a few hours to her workweek. I think you can see where it goes from here. Now mom, dad, the kids all work, we sell things on eBay and dad has two jobs and $3,000 cars are now $10,000 and bread is two bucks. There’s no end to it folks. We are stuck in the loop and you can’t afford to turn back. They will figure out a way to get every dime you make. Free tv is pay tv, free radio is pay radio, you don’t have one phone you have six, freenet is gone and we have to have broadband to survive, everybody wants to lease you a car so you never really own one and and and and and. Aaaahhhhh!
Think about it.
